Resources

Resources Main Image
In this section we explore the concept of self portraiture through three key themes: Explore; Create; and Exhibit. Activities have been broken down into age ranges and include suggested links to the national curriculum.

Explore
Here you will find ideas that explore what a self portrait is, tips for visiting a local gallery to see portraits first hand, and information about different artistic styles.

Create
In this section there are lots of different ideas you can try to create a self portrait. There are so many different styles you could choose, from Pointillism and Surealism to coloured paper mosaics. Why not try a few styles and see which you like the best?

Exhibit
Here are some ideas about ways to take the project further and develop your own exhibition in school or in the local community.

The Online Gallery
The special Face Britain online gallery, brought to life by PhotoBox, is a great starting point if you're looking for inspiration.

Download the information leaflet about Face Britain sent to all UK schools in May 2011 along with a poster to display in school.

The portraits above were created by The Royal Academy as part of their ongoing programme with Kids Company.
